Terms of service

Using HaloSilver

Last updated July 7, 2026. This is a draft pending legal review. By creating an account or using HaloSilver, you agree to these terms. HaloSilver is operated by SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver (“we”).

What HaloSilver is

HaloSilver is a scam-detection service for adults who may be at risk of an online scam — often an aging parent, but also a spouse, a friend, or anyone else someone wants to look out for. It runs on the protected person’s computer, reads on-screen text locally, and flags patterns that look like romance scams, fake tech support, or financial-pressure tactics. When something is flagged, the guardian receives a plain-language alert. HaloSilver does not show the guardian the protected person’s screen.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement to create an account. Accounts are created by the person setting up and managing the protection (the “guardian”) on behalf of the person being protected (the “protected person”). The protected person does not need their own account. HaloSilver is intended for guardians and protected people located in the United States, and is not currently designed or offered for use elsewhere.

Consent is required

HaloSilver is never installed in secret. Before adding a protected person, you must confirm one of the following is true, and it must remain true for as long as HaloSilver runs on their computer:

HaloSilver is not designed or licensed for covert monitoring of anyone who has not consented and is not under your legal guardianship or power of attorney. Using it that way is a breach of these terms and may break the law where you live. You are responsible for confirming the consent basis you select is accurate.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Subscription and billing

HaloSilver is a paid subscription. New accounts include a 7-day free trial. There is no permanent free tier. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription begins and the payment method on file is charged for the then-current price. Payments are processed by Stripe. You can cancel at any time from the account area or by contacting us; cancellation stops future charges and protection continues until the end of the paid period. If a payment fails and is not resolved, protection may be paused or the account suspended. We will tell you before that happens. Except where required by law, payments already made are not refundable. Removing an individual protected person or device from a multi-person plan reduces your bill starting the next billing cycle; the cycle already in progress is not prorated or refunded. If we change our pricing, we will give existing subscribers advance notice before the new price applies at their next renewal.

What HaloSilver does not promise

HaloSilver is one layer of protection, not a guarantee. It cannot catch every scam, and it may occasionally flag something that turns out to be harmless. It is not a substitute for ongoing conversation with the protected person about online safety, and it does not replace the judgment of a person. HaloSilver does not provide financial, legal, or medical advice. Alerts are information to help you decide what to do, not instructions or professional advice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, HaloSilver and SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss resulting from a scam or fraud that HaloSilver did not detect or prevent. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim. This limit does not apply to losses caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct, or to the extent a law that applies to you does not allow this kind of limit. The service is provided “as is” and “as available.”

Ending the service

You can remove a protected person or a device at any time from the family portal, and you can close your account by contacting us at support@softstackers.com. We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, including the consent requirement, or where required to protect the service or comply with the law. On termination, protection stops and account data is handled as described in the privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. We will update the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we will give notice through the account or by email. Continuing to use HaloSilver after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Indemnification

If you breach the consent requirement or the acceptable-use section above, or the consent basis you attested to turns out to be inaccurate, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages HaloSilver and SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver incur as a direct result, including from a claim brought by the protected person or a third party. This does not apply to a claim arising from our own breach of these terms or our own negligence.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

Assignment

We may assign these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your account or these terms to anyone else without our consent.

Entire agreement

These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about using HaloSilver, and replace any prior or separate discussions, marketing, or website copy about the service. They do not replace the description of what HaloSilver is and does in “What HaloSilver is” above.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Dispute resolution — arbitration and class action waiver

Most disagreements can be resolved by contacting us directly at support@softstackers.com, and we encourage you to try that first. If a dispute can't be resolved that way, you and SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver agree to resolve it through binding, individual arbitration rather than in court, except as described below.

Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and will take place in Bexar County, Texas, or by phone or videoconference if you prefer and the arbitrator agrees. The arbitrator's decision is final and binding, and can be enforced in any court with jurisdiction.

Exceptions: either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court instead of arbitration, and either of us may go to court to stop misuse of the service — for example, unauthorized access or a breach of the consent requirement above — without first going through arbitration.

You and SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative action. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim (and only that claim) will proceed in court in Bexar County, Texas instead of arbitration; the rest of this section still applies to everything else.

Opting out: if you don't want this arbitration section to apply to you, email support@softstackers.com with the subject line “Arbitration opt-out” within 30 days of creating your account. If you opt out, disputes will instead be handled in the courts located in Bexar County, Texas, and the rest of these terms still apply.
